Video is one of the best tools to bring life to your event! Whether you’re hosting a large-scale event in Central Park or a small gathering (like a Super Bowl watch party) at a convention center, consider using video to capture your audience’s interest and attention.
This is where digital event displays come in handy. You can place a small display by a booth or mount it on the wall to showcase a performance or speech in a crowded room. It’s an easy way to better connect with your audience.
There are a few different options to choose from when considering a digital display for your event. A production labor company like Top Knotch Productions can install and manage the displays, but you need to decide whether to use a digital projector, an LCD screen, or LED panels.
Let’s weigh the pros and cons of each option…
Digital Projector
The go-to video display option for movie theaters (and filmgoers who want a bigger picture in their home), digital projection can be a great fit for many events.
Digital projection technology has come a long way! Many new models offer HD display up to 8K resolution.
The video is typically displayed against a projector screen (although it can even be projected against a wall), which allows more space than the two options below. After all, you can adjust most projector screens to fit your needs.
The downside? If the projector lamps fail, it could spell trouble for your event (so make sure you have spares). Also, the transparency of your picture might shift depending on the lighting of the room–so digital projectors can be a great option for dark rooms, but they aren’t a good fit for events in a bright space.
LCD Screens
If you want a simple, portable screen that has great picture quality, LCD screens might be your best choice.
They’re easy to find – you can buy one at your local electronics store – and they’re pretty easy to manage.
But, if your event is large-scale, they likely won’t work (you’ll have trouble finding an LCD screen bigger than 90 inches). They also aren’t an option for outdoor gatherings in the daytime, as the light will be drowned out by the sun.
LED Panels
LED Video Walls are always the best option in terms of picture quality, as Data Projections points out here.
LED panels make dazzling displays that capture your audience’s attention! They are energy-efficient, and you can get a huge display size and they work quite well in outdoor settings.
Keep in mind that LED panels will usually require an expert team to install–we do NOT recommend that you put them up yourself. You might have to rig them, and it’s important to make sure that the display is set up safely and professionally.
